Sixth place in the prestigious fDi Intelligence ranking confirms the high investment potential of Katowice, the central city of the Metropolis of over 2 million people.  It is with great satisfaction that we observe that regardless of various negative global factors, such as the earlier pandemic and now the war in Ukraine, the growth rate in the foreign direct investment sector remains high. This means that our strategy for attracting foreign investors has been rated the highest among Polish cities. This, in turn, brings real benefits to our residents, because the more investors, the more interesting jobs, and thus more revenue for the city budget,” says Marcin Krupa, mayor of Katowice. – After all, the availability of well-paid jobs is one of the factors influencing young people’s decisions to tie their future to our city, the mayor adds.

The presentation of the fDi Intelligence awards took place on March 14 at the MIPIM 2023 International Property and Investment Fair in Cannes, France, where Katowice is promoting itself as a location for private investment.

The ranking takes into account 370 European cities and 141 regions, assessing their prospects for foreign direct investment development. According to the methodology adopted, the centers were analyzed on the basis of indicators grouped according to five categories: economic potential, human resources and lifestyle, cost efficiency, infrastructure and business friendliness. The area in which Katowice was singled out is the strategy for attracting foreign direct investment (fDi Strategy). In this area, experts analyzed applications from 60 European locations. As a result, Katowice was included in the group of large European cities along with Manchester and Glasgow, among others, and took sixth place in the ranking.

At present, in Katowice we already have more than 100 centers classified as modern business services sector, where about 25,000 people work. These numbers are the result of our systematic work on the development of this sector in Katowice and the continuous development of our strategy to attract investors. Thanks to our cooperation with investors and the creation of new centers, together we offer attractive jobs, among others, to the residents of Katowice. This has a positive impact on their earnings and standard of living,” stresses Mariusz Jankowski head of the investor services department at Katowice City Hall.
