Katowice, April 24, 2025 – Rafał Modrzewski, CEO and co-founder of ICEYE, Mayor of Katowice – Marcin Krupa and Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship – Wojciech Saługa signed a letter of intent during the ongoing European Economic.
The agreement with ICEYE is a step towards the development of the space sector in Katowice and the region, where we are already observing a dynamic increase in expenditure on modern technologies and innovations. ICEYE confirmed its intention to locate its office in the space of the Katowice Gaming and Technology Hub. In addition, the parties will take steps to strengthen cooperation with regional universities.
The letter is a significant impulse for the development of the region and is consistent with the key assumptions of the Development Strategy of the Silesian Voivodeship “Śląskie 2020+”, as well as the Regional Innovation Strategy of the Silesian Voivodeship for 2013-2020, especially in the area of strengthening the innovation potential. The direction of cooperation is also consistent with the City Development Strategy “Katowice 2030” and with the objectives of the Katowice Gaming and Technology Hub.
The Polish-Finnish company ICEYE is a world leader in satellite technologies based on synthetic aperture radars (SAR). ICEYE is the owner and operator of the world’s largest constellation of SAR satellites, offering global access to radar data with the highest available revisit frequency. So far, the company has placed 48 satellites in orbit – for its own needs and those of its clients.
– Signing this letter is an important step for Katowice, which is consistently implementing the city’s development strategy and carrying out its long-term mission, and the culmination of these activities will be the Katowice Gaming and Technology Hub. Thanks to this cooperation, we will be able to create the future of the space industry in the Katowice agglomeration from the very beginning of the Hub’s operation, together with key technology companies such as ICEYE, raising it to the next level of transformation – says Marcin Krupa, Mayor of Katowice.

– Cooperation with market leaders and their support for local entrepreneurship is the foundation of our long-term strategy for the economic development of the region. We want to create attractive conditions for the development of young talents and the creation of innovative companies – said Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, Wojciech Saługa.
– We see a dynamically developing ecosystem in the Silesia region, characterised by a strong academic background and good prospects for the development of modern technologies. Poland plays a key role in the development strategy of ICEYE, which is why we are enthusiastically involved in this cooperation. And since I come from Katowice, today’s agreement has both a professional and personal dimension for me – said Rafał Modrzewski, CEO and co-founder of ICEYE.
The Katowice Gaming and Technology Hub is currently the largest investment of Katowice. It will focus on supporting the gaming industry, e-sports and modern technologies. Its mission is to connect scientific communities with business, creating space for innovation, development and education. The Hub is to be an open place – integrating local and global knowledge, supporting the development of a future-oriented technological ecosystem.
The letter emphasises the commitment of all parties to supporting innovation and building lasting business relationships.
