Katowice will once again play with the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity

On Sunday, 30 January, we will meet again the volunteers the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity on the Katowice streets. This year, we are playing for children’s ophthalmology. In the city of music there will also be concerts and many additional attractions.

This time the main theme of the WOŚP finale is widely understood pediatric ophthalmology. Sight is the most important human sense. Any problems connected with it influence the general development and and cognition of the world, that is why it is so important to quickly identify possible abnormalities and and undertake treatment. The factor necessary for correct diagnosis and implementation of therapy is modern equipment, which Polish institutions lack.

Local headquarters have been operating in many cities for 30 years now. They are staffed by volunteers who collect money on the streets on the day of the finale. The situation is no different in Katowice, where seven teams started their work a few weeks ago. They are operating at: Wańkowicz Private Secondary School in Witosa housing estate, School and Kindergarten Complex for Deaf Children in Koszutka, Elementarz Foundation, Foundation with Passion in Szopienice, Ecumenical Foundation BETHLEHEM, Municipal Cultural Centre “Bogucice-Zawodzie” and Red Balloon Foundation.

WOŚP on Ceglana Street

A lot of attractions will be waiting for the Katowice residents in the University Clinical Center prof. K. Gibiński of the Medical University of Silesia on Ceglana 35 Street, which is one of the one of the best ophthalmology institutions in Poland. This day the hospital invites you for free eye examinations for children and adults, meetings with specialists and people who were treated in the center, sightseeing, medical rescue demonstrations, blood donation with beetroot juice distribution, ecology workshops for children with NIKOSIE the Hedgehog, mapping, games, trainingsand workshops. But it doesn’t end there. Thanks to #FryzjerzydlaWOŚP – you will be able to get a new haircut and contribute to the moneybox. In addition, students of the Medical University of Silesia will present the educational potential of phantoms and introduce those willing to the world of education room, and the three-generation teams the Rocket Foundation will build the biggest glasses of hearts!

In the green area of the Hospital, a stage will be set up for shows and concerts, including: theatrical performances, singers from the song studio, majorettes, the SUM choir, and the star of the evening – the Cree band.

Final at Spodek

The area next to Spodek will be a place of other attractions related to the 30th Jubilee Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity organized in Katowice. Among the attractions there will be food trucks, animations for children, fire trucks and MINI cars. The lot of musical sensations will provide: Holy Blue, Snowblind, Decadent fun club, Transgresja and Łona&Webber. Traditionally – at 20.00 – the Light to the Sky will shine directly from the stage. This year it will be in the form of ecological balloons with ribbons made of bamboo tree.

Additional attractions

There are many attractions prepared for Sunday, 30 January, and among the most interesting ones we can mention: a concert in MDK Bogucice-Zawodzie, a soccer match (between AC Bogucice team and Katowice City Hall team) on the field of “Słowian” Sports Center in Zawodzie or Orchestra Tram.

It will run from 12.00 p.m. on the route to the “Zawodzie” Transfer Centre – Wolności Square. Its passengers – volunteers and medieval warriors and vikings – will get off at selected stops to entertain passers-by and collect money for the orchestra can. Due to the pandemic situation, no streetcar rides will be possible. From 10.00 a.m. onwards, in the gym of Primary School No. 13 on Wróblewskiego Street, you will be able to sew the biggest heart for WOŚP. We encourage you to actively participate in this action – just take a piece of fabric from home and come with it between 10.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. to sew it to the whole.
